Like sister, like brother. Finneas took to the Jimmy Kimmel Live! stage solo on Wednesday night (Dec. 11) to perform a pair of tracks from his recently released solo EP, Blood Harmony. The Billie Eilish co-writer/producer — who recently became one the youngest producer ever nominated on their own for producer of the year, non-classical, at the Grammys — kept things super mellow, as you might expect.
Sitting at a keyboard bathed in blue light on a sparse stage pulsing with neon lights illuminating an empty apartment set, he performed “I Lost a Friend” in his hushed voice, the swirl of chilly synth sounds floating around him as the song bubbled up. “I lost my mind, and nobody believes me/ Say, “I know that he don’t need me/ ‘Cause he made a little too much money to be 20 and sad”/ And I’ll be fine without ’em/ But all I do is write about ’em/ How the hell did I lose a friend I never had?” he sang while briefly wandering the stage before returning to the keys.
The 22-year-old singer/songwriter ditched the piano for a bonus performance of the glitchy “I Don’t Miss You At All,” singing the longing, dark pop tune in which he swears he’s doing fine without you. Seriously. “And I’m sleepin’ fine/ I don’t mean to boast/ But I only dream about you/ Once or twice a night at most/ And it feels so good/ Eating alone/ I don’t get distracted by your smile,” he sang with a hint of menace in his voice in a not-very-convincing promise that everything is great.
