During the sit-down, Bell — who voices Anna in the film — reflected on the time it’s taken to make the Disney sequel in the wake of the original 2013 film’s record-breaking success. “It’s been six years,” she told host Jimmy Kimmel, “but it’s also been sort of six years in the making. And this movie, it has matured with it’s audience — that’s what I’ll say.”
Groff revealed that, while his co-stars handled the bulk of the music in the first Frozen, his character Kristoff will finally be getting a musical number of his own in the sequel. “I do have a song in this one, yeah,” the Broadway vet said. “Bobby [Lopez] and Kristen [Anderson-Lopez], who wrote the music for the first movie, wrote the music for the second and they wrote this amazing ’80s jam.”
The cast also admitted that they shared spoilers with their children. “I told my kids all of it,” Bell said. “You just so badly want your kids to think you’re cool and I say to them all the time. I’m like, ‘You don’t get it. I’m literally a cool mom. You don’t understand how cool I am.’ They want nothing to do with it.”
“So when we first read the script two-and-a-half years ago, three years ago, I came home and I was like, ‘Okay, here’s how it goes down.’ And I told them everything and I told them, ‘Just keep it a secret,'” she added. “Then it occurred to me, kids are bad secret keepers and I breached my contract.”
While the foursome remained mum on actually sharing those spoilers for fear of incurring Disney’s wrath, they did look back on the moment they realized the first Frozen film had become a runaway phenomenon.
“When we watched it…we felt like, ‘Oh wow, we kinda broke a mold!’ We did a movie about familial love and self-love instead of romantic love, and we were really, really proud of the film,” Bell said. “And then I think it was just every week, later, we were checking the box office going, ‘Huh, that’s really hangin’ on. Wow, that’s really…yeah, that’s holdin’ at number one!”
